“I guess that’s just part of loving people: You have to give things up. Sometimes you even have to give them up.”
-Lauren Oliver (Delirium)
“What are you going to do with your life?” In one way or another it seemed that people had been asking her this forever; teachers, her parents, friends at three in the morning, but the question had never seemed this pressing and still she was no nearer an answer… “Live each day as if it’s your last’, that was the conventional advice, but really, who had the energy for that? What if it rained or you felt a bit glandy? It just wasn’t practical. Better by far to be good and courageous and bold and to make difference. Not change the world exactly, but the bit around you. Cherish your friends, stay true to your principles, live passionately and fully and well. Experience new things. Love and be loved, if you ever get the chance.”
- David Nicholls (One Day)
“If you gave someone your heart and they died, did they take it with them? Did you spend the rest of forever with a hole inside you that couldn’t be filled?”
“In nineteen minutes, you can mow the front lawn; color your hair; watch a third of a hockey game. In nineteen minutes, you can bake scones or get a tooth filled by a dentist; you can fold laundry for a family of five.
In nineteen minutes, you can stop the world; or you can just jump off it”- Jodi Picoult (Nineteen Minutes)
Okay firstly this is an amazing novel and I would reccomend it to each every single person on this planet, and secondly I was having a hard time deciding between quotes so I chose two.
“I hope you’re ready, because I’m about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended. And if you’re listening to these tapes, you’re one of the reasons why.”
“You don’t know what goes on in anyone’s life but your own. And when you mess with one part of a person’s life, you’re not messing with just that part. Unfortunately, you can’t be that precise and selective. When you mess with one part of a person’s life, you’re messing with their entire life. Everything… affects everything.”
- Jay Asher (Thirteen Reasons Why)
” No matter where I look inside myself, I come accross more love for him, for everything about him, his anger as much as his tenderness - he’s so alive, he makes me feel like I could take a bite out of the whole earth. If only words hadn’t eluded me today, if only I yelled back at him: I do get it! I get that as long as I live no one will ever love you as much as I do - I have a heart so I can give it to you alone! That’s exactly the way I feel - but unfortunately, people don’t talk like that outside of Victorian novels.”
- Jandy Nelson (The Sky Is Everywhere)
